My son used to say “the biggest lie of the devil is that there is no devil”. I believe that is pretty accurate, but I would add another lie to that list, that “God is not good” or “God is the bad guy”. It is interesting to see how the enemy works, he tempts and pressures people to do wrong things, think wrong things and then turns around and uses those very things to condemn us for sinning. Then he tries to convince us that if God were good then you would never have been in the situation that caused you to sin.

The enemy is a deceiver and deception is the basis of all he does. The enemy wants to deceive everyone he can into thinking that God is not good. It is interesting that in the books of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus said “to those who have ears to hear, let them hear” when he wanted to emphasize a parable he had just taught. There are those who have ears to hear and those who have ears that don’t hear.  He is not talking about people who are deaf, he is saying to those who can accept the TRUTH… receive it!

What are some of the causes of ears that do not hear?  It is difficult to hear from someone you don’t know. It is interesting how “ hardened” to the truth we can become.  Recently, a young man 18 years old came to be with us in Honduras.  He was raised in a christian home,  attended church, youth groups, and christian school yet when he arrived he did not know the truth. He knew about the truth but he did not know the significance of the truth for himself. It wasn’t until one of our missionaries told him his personal story of how much he loved Jesus and what Jesus did for him, that he finally gained “ears to hear”. He received his personal salvation from his personal savior and gave it all to Him. This experience with this young man furthered my search for some answers. Disappointment is a major reason that many give up on God. Prayers perceived as not answered, divorce, abandonment, tragedy, condemnation, guilt, shame, religion etc., all of which can be driven by our enemy who only came to steal, kill and destroy. Jesus came to give us life in abundance.

I remember as a new believer being passionate and beginning to move in some of the gifts of the Spirit when a woman, in my church, told me “don’t worry you will calm down soon”. Really? It hasn’t happened yet, 34 years later! Why did she want to pour her cold water of ambivalence on my fire? Often our families are the worst ones. They know us and our past and resist the change that God wants to do in our lives. My mother’s comment after I received Jesus was, “it will be over in six months”.  Why is it that other christians make it so difficult to see God – the lover of our souls? Fortunately for me that one person was not enough to slow me down. Let’s take an accounting of ourselves to see if we, as christians, are presenting the true God to those around us.

Satan, the enemy of our soul, wants to convince every man, woman and child that God is not good. If the circumstances of this life can convince you that God is bad and is in charge of the tragedies of life, then who would want to know Him?  In our day of fast food, quick research on the web and instant messaging ,we have lost the ability to wait on the Lord. There is a reason that the Bible uses agricultural symbolism to describe  the Kingdom of God. Seed time and Harvest. Every seed has it’s own time of germination.  For instance, corn seed at the correct temperature will emerge from the soil in 8 days, however coffee requires 45 days. Corn can be harvested in 80 to 120 days, but coffee requires at least two years to produce the first fruit. Each seed has a genetic code that determines everything about it, Spiritual seed is similar in that God has established the times for that seed to bare fruit.

We grow impatient in waiting for God to answer our prayers. We fail to understand that submitting to God means waiting on Him. The wait is for our good as we learn to walk in faith.

Deu 31:6

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord, your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Heb 13:5+6

“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say:

“The Lord is my helper;

I will not fear.

What can man do to me?”

There is an influence on the earth that wants to turn the wait for answers into an anger at God. God is not moved by our momentary impatience nor by our momentary rejection of Him. He has an eternal perspective and knows the beginning to the end, yet he has given us “free will” to choose or reject Him. You choose to see His goodness or you choose to ignore it! What will you choose?

Deu 30:19

“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
